Discover Historic Georgetown: A Perfect Day Trip from Breckenridge

If you’re staying at The Village at Breckenridge and looking for a fun day trip, consider visiting the charming mountain town of Georgetown, Colorado. Packed with history, scenic beauty, and family-friendly attractions, Georgetown offers a wonderful change of pace while still delivering the mountain experience Colorado is famous for.

The drive from Breckenridge to Georgetown is approximately 45 miles and takes about one hour via Interstate 70 and Highway 9. The route features stunning mountain views, making the journey enjoyable from the moment you leave Breckenridge.

Once you arrive, start your visit by exploring Georgetown’s beautifully preserved Victorian downtown. Known as the “Silver Queen of the Rockies,” Georgetown was one of Colorado’s most important mining communities during the late 1800s. Today, visitors can browse unique shops, stroll historic streets, and admire beautifully restored buildings.

One of the town’s most popular attractions is the Georgetown Loop Railroad, a historic narrow-gauge train that winds through the mountains and offers breathtaking views. During the summer season, reservations are recommended as tickets can sell out quickly.

For outdoor enthusiasts, Georgetown Lake provides opportunities for walking, fishing, and enjoying spectacular mountain scenery.

When hunger strikes, stop by Cooper’s on the Creek, a local favorite known for its relaxed atmosphere, outdoor patio, and menu featuring burgers, sandwiches, and Colorado-inspired fare.

After a day of history, mountain views, and small-town charm, you’ll be back in Breckenridge in time for dinner or an evening stroll through the village. Georgetown is proof that some of Colorado’s most memorable adventures are just a short drive away.
