If the squirrels of Breckenridge could talk, we’re convinced they would have some incredible stories to tell.
Every morning, as guests sip coffee on the Village plaza, along the Maggie Pond, or on the banks of the blue river, the local squirrels begin what appears to be a highly coordinated operation. One scout races along a pine branch. Another stands watch near a hiking trail. A third seems to be evaluating the snack situation on nearby patios.
Coincidence? We think not.
Over the years, we’ve developed a theory: Breckenridge’s squirrels belong to a secret mountain society dedicated to welcoming visitors to the Rockies.
Their mission seems simple. Encourage guests to spend more time outside.
Maybe that’s why so many visitors suddenly decide to explore the scenic Blue River Rec Path, stroll through historic Main Street, walk the ski trails of the Breck ski resort, or venture out on one of the hundreds of miles of trails surrounding Breckenridge. The squirrels know something many travelers forget: the best vacation memories happen when you slow down and enjoy the mountains.
Of course, the real stars of Breckenridge are the spectacular alpine views, outdoor adventures, world-class skiing, and vibrant summer festivals. But wildlife encounters often become some of our guests’ favorite vacation stories. Whether it’s spotting a curious squirrel, a fox crossing a trail, or a moose in the distance, the Colorado mountains have a way of creating unexpected moments.
So the next time you’re relaxing on your balcony with a morning cup of coffee, keep an eye on the trees. If a squirrel seems to be watching you, don’t worry.
He’s probably just checking to make sure you’re having a proper Breckenridge vacation.
And if you’ve already booked your stay at our Breckenridge resort condominium, consider yourself an honorary member of the Secret Society of Porch Squirrels.
Welcome to the mountains.
