A Perfect Family Day Trip: Wolves, Wildlife, and Breckenridge Memories

Staying at The Village at Breckenridge puts your family in the heart of one of Colorado’s most famous mountain towns, but some of the state’s most memorable wildlife experiences are just a scenic drive away.

One of the best family-friendly excursions is a visit to the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center in Divide, Colorado. Located about 80 miles from Breckenridge, the drive typically takes around 1 1/2 hours and travels through some of Colorado’s beautiful mountain and high plains scenery. Along the way, you’ll pass historic mountain towns, forests, and stunning views that make the journey part of the adventure.

Once you arrive, you’ll discover why the center is considered one of Colorado’s top wildlife attractions. The guided tours introduce visitors to wolves, coyotes, foxes, and other rescued animals while providing fascinating information about conservation, animal behavior, and the important role these species play in the ecosystem.

The tours are engaging for both adults and children, making this an excellent outing for families looking to combine education with adventure. Visitors often leave with a new appreciation for Colorado’s wildlife and the efforts being made to protect it. This is a wonderful tour for anyone that would like to learn more about these amazing, misunderstood animals.

Because tour sizes are limited and popular dates fill quickly, reservations are strongly recommended. Booking ahead helps ensure you get the tour time that best fits your family’s schedule.

After a day of wildlife encounters and mountain scenery, returning to Breckenridge for dinner and an evening stroll through town is the perfect way to end a memorable Colorado vacation. Sometimes the best mountain experiences happen off the ski slopes.
