A Colorado Tradition in the Mountains

Breckenridge Stables has been operating since 1976, offering safe, family‑friendly horseback adventures for riders of all ages and abilities. With over 100 horses, the wranglers expertly match each guest with the right horse for comfort and confidence on the trail.

During the summer riding season, which typically runs mid‑May through late September (weather permitting), riders embark on a 1.5‑hour guided journey through some of the area’s most picturesque terrain.

What the Trail Ride Is Like

The summer trail ride winds through forests, over bubbling river crossings, and past serene beaver ponds—each turn revealing a new perspective of Colorado’s rugged beauty.

You’ll climb gently through the Tenmile Range, eventually earning sweeping views of the Continental Divide, a highlight for many visitors. This isn’t a monotonous nose‑to‑tail flat trail; it’s a route with elevation, character, and variety—perfect for families wanting an authentic Rocky Mountain ride.

Great for Families and All Experience Levels

One of the best parts of riding with Breckenridge Stables is its accessibility.

  • Children ages 4–5 can ride their own horse with a wrangler leading.
  • Kids under 35 lbs may ride double with an adult.
  • Larger groups and riders with varying experience levels can all participate together.

The wranglers are friendly, experienced, and committed to ensuring every rider feels comfortable and safe—whether it’s your first ride or your fiftieth.

Practical Information for Your Ride

Here’s what you need to know before saddling up:

  • Season: Mid‑May through September 30 (weather dependent)
  • Ride Duration: 1.5 hours
  • Ride Frequency: Every half hour from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (except lunch)
  • Reservations: Required (via breckstables.com or by phone)

And of course, Colorado weather can change quickly, so layered clothing is your friend.

Why You Should Add This to Your Summer Plans
